GPS Download for the Appalachian Trail

Following my thru-hike, I started working at an awesome company called Gaia GPS. Since I love the Appalachian Trail, I put together a web page for the Gaia GPS Website that includes the official ATC GPS data for the trail with some added goodies.

Click here to view the Appalachian Trail data on gaiagps.com

The folder contains tracks, waypoints, and elevation data for the AT. If you already use the Gaia GPS app, maps are included, too. To keep it official, I pulled the most recent data from Appalachiantrail.org, which you can see here.

How to Use the Data

You can download the Appalachian Trail GPX or KML file to your desktop, or get a free Gaia GPS account and add it to your personal tracks list. Browse the entire folder, or select state by state.

GPX and KML file formats can be used with most GPS software and apps.

For more instructions about using this data, both with and without the Gaia GPS app, go here.

Want More Data?

If a lot of people enjoy this, I can update and add more data based on reader feedback. Leave me a comment with suggestions.

I got lost in the tech talk and have no idea what that means … but it sounds interesting!

“…download in GPX or KML format to your desktop…” Going in circles trying to find a place to actually download the KML

      Terry,

Go to the page and click ‘Data’ and select KML

The first two links you provided do not work for me. It goes to the GaiaGPS page, but has a message “Sorry, you do not have permission to view this item.”
I have a Gaiagps paid account, so it must be something else.

Excellent resource, thanks for putting it together! I’m planning to load this on my Suunto but probably will just keep as a backup instead of navigating (to save battery).
