Federal Agency Temporarily Halts Mountain Valley Pipeline

On Friday, a federal agency decided to stop construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The project has run into many challenges, such as erosion, since it began its path through the Central Virginia valleys.

Since construction on the 3.6-mile segment of the natural gas pipeline is now on hold, FERC decided that work on the remainder of the pipeline should also not continue. The pipeline would cross more than 500 streams and wetlands in Southwest Virginia.

Although this decision is said to be a temporary hiatus, it is still a major victory for opponents who have been fighting the massive pipeline for the last four years.
