Kimberly "Ronin" Huber

Hi, My name is Kimberly, but I go by Ronin on the trail. I am a 53 yr old female with gypsy heart and incurable case of wanderlust. I am a 2015 PCT Thru-hiker, but currently reside in an A Frame at the base of the White Mountains of NH. Hiking and traveling abroad has taught me to live by two mottos, "Hike your own hike" and "Eadem Mutata Resurgo", or "Although changed, I shall arise the same". I believe humor is an important part of life, and as a Boston native, my second languages are wit and sarcasm. Please enjoy, but as with life, take everything with a light heart. Cheers

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Maine

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Maine

Appalachian Trail, it's not you, it's me. I feel we had a great run of it, went through some deep shit, but in the end we just weren't right for one another.

Three States Down, 11 to Go. Beast Mode Kicks into Full Gear

Sorry GA, NC & TN, it's not you it's me..... Time heals all wounds.........then the wind, rain and snow breaks them open again. But, the weather cannot stop this beast of a thru-hiker from her 20-27 mile days!

Springer to the NOC, and the First Week Is in the Bag

One week down and 137 miles! It's been interesting seeing the flow of the trail, from late starts, bad trail etiquette to trail magic on Easter. It's been a great start to my adventure!

Searching High and Low, This Intrepid Thru-Hiker Is Unable to Locate Her Physical Conditioning

March 28th is looming on the horizon and this AT thru-hiker is practically foaming at the mouth to get started. But first, a final check to make sure all that can be done has been done.

Encountering a Thru-Hiker in Its Native Environment, the Natives Are Curious and They Have Questions

Encountering a Thru-Hiker in Its Native Environment, the Natives Are Curious and They Have Questions

On my 2015 Thru-hike of the pacific Crest Trail, I began to believe that we are like some rare creature that people have heard about through movies and books, but never really expect to meet in the wild. Upon finding one, the individual may be overwhelmed with excitement and curiosity. Questions abound, and no, I do not carry a gun for protection.

White on the AT? Girl, You Must be Trippin!

White on the AT? Girl, You Must be Trippin!

Bugs on the trail and the Zombie Apocalypse have surprising similarities. But, just as cutting up a zombie and wearing it like a winter coat can make you invisible, can light colored clothing shield you from mosquitoes? Science says it can, so I'll be wearing white shirts on the AT this summer.

PCT vs. AT Hiker Prep Smackdown

The Appalachian Trail may be technically more difficult, but the trip prep is sweet compared to the PCT!

Hike the AT or CDT? New England Roots Win Out

Hike the AT or CDT? New England Roots Win Out

Because I live in the White Mountains of NH, hiking NOBO on the AT is pretty much "there and back again".  I was in GA on a business trip last year and hiked the AT approach trail on a day hike. Told my boss in MA he was lucky I didn't decide to just walk home.........cut to a year later.
