Day 4 – 16 miles We were excited to hike all day above tree line. The views were incredible, and it was amazing to be able to see the trail out into the horizon. First couple passes weren’t bad. The last few were taking their toll. Played leap frog on he trail with our camp neighbors from the night before. They always seemed to get up and over each pass before us but always waited for us at the top and rewarded our summit with a handful of gummy bears! We thought the last pass was the worst until we had to climb down 1500ft in 2.5 miles. Felt like a cruel joke zig zagging though those endless switchbacks to Tin Cup Pass rd. I had absolutely nothing left in me after this day and craved my tent and sleeping pad more than anything #coloradotrail #collegiateloop #continentaldividetrail #hikertrash

EP2 of videos is live. I think these are the best thru-hike videos that exist on the internet, so, check em out! 7/19/18 – #CDT Day 11. 29.6 miles hiked, 182.2 total. A big day! It began with a climb up to 7,500ft over about 14 miles followed by 15 more miles of steady descents. The highlight of the day was definitely the “China wall” or “Chinese wall”. I’m not sure which of these is the actual name but regardless it was a cool land feature. Sheer cliff faces that towered over the trail and provided great afternoon shade. I met a guy at the top of the pass, Russ from Chicago who was carrying a massive pack along with two grocery bags. “Wtf is this guy doing.” Turns out he was out for 20 miles to put CDT markers on the trail so that it would be easier to follow. The CDT coalition is putting a big effort into putting more markers on the trail this year. He looked absolutely miserable. He said the signs weighed about 20lbs total and his backpack looked to be a 75L filled to the brim. Just watching him move brought me pain. We found a great hidden campsite near the river. All around the forest had burned last year but this small grove of pines was untouched. It felt like a faerie circle, an oasis in the sea of dead and charred trees. Tom Tom built another fire and sat around eating dinner and telling ghost stories and our personal paranormal expereinces. That has been one of my favorite nights on the trail so far.
