Gear Review: Mountain Hardwear Breeze AC Women’s Tank

With warmer weather and summer seemingly just around the corner (because spring apparently comes in February now – thanks global warming!), it’s officially time to start picking up a few new pieces of summer outdoor gear!

I’ve spent many days of my life hiking around in the hot and humid mid Atlantic states. You can’t let a little heat and humidity ruin your fun, which is why I am always on the lookout for light and breathable hiking clothes for all of my summer adventures.

Due to all of this, I was really excited when one of my first new pieces of gear this season was the Mountain Hardwear Breeze AC Tank. It originally caught my eye because of the material and the elastic at the bottom of the tank. Through testing this tank out on the trail, at the gym, and even during a rock climbing workout, I am becoming familiar with the in’s and out’s of this really unique (and pretty cute!) piece of clothing.

Specifics:

Size / Color: The tank that I tested out was a size medium which fit my 5’2 body as expected. I have it in the “Sticky Note” color option, which admittedly I am not crazy about.

Price: Averaging around $50, the price is fair and about average when compared to other competitive products.

Material: The material is really nice: Synthetic, yet soft, airy, and very breathable. The tank also comes in at a nice 4.8oz thanks to this lightweight material.

Design: The elastic at the bottom was really interesting to me; I have been recently getting into rock climbing (bouldering specifically). Having a loose fitting shirt always leaves me a little weary to get into certain positions when climbing for fear of my shirt flying up. Before trying out this tank, one of my biggest hopes was that the elastic would help solve this problem!

After Field Test Thoughts:

Design: I personally love the way the back is cut. It’s functional, yet really unique from a fashion standpoint. It’s always nice when you can look somewhat cute on the trail, but not have to sacrifice any performance. As I said, I am personally not a huge fan of the bright yellow color, but the tank comes in other really nice options such as pink, black, and gray which I am highly considering purchasing!

Performance: When climbing the elastic band did wonders to help my shirt from flying up. When hiking, the band helped keep my shirt in place when taking off/ putting on my backpack. My favorite feature is how breathable and soft the material is. The material was so great that it was noticeably wicking sweat away from my body. All of this paired with the razor cut back helps with ventilation and keeps you cool / airy in the heat.

I was also a fan of how the tank didn’t prohibit any range of movement. I didn’t feel constricted like I do in certain synthetic t-shirts. I was able to move freely, have sweat noticeably wicked from my body, and look cute in the process. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!

All in all, I would recommend this tank. The breathability is to die for, it’s functional, and it’s honestly a pretty cute piece of clothing. I’m really excited to learn how it performs during the toughest conditions at the peak of summer, but I have absolutely no doubt that it will keep me airy and cool on the trail or the rock.

Happy Hiking!
