Following More White Blazes on the Long Trail

In 2016 I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail (see photo for evidence) and figured I saw every single white blaze. Well, guess what?  The Long Trail is also white-blazed. Welp, guess I need to start hiking again.  On July 15 I will begin a Long Trail thru-hike.  My plan is to go north to south, and take about 15-17 days (about 17.5 miles a day).

If you are not familiar with the Long Trail, it is a 273-mile hiking trail that goes through the state of Vermont. It starts right outside Williamstown, MA, and ends near the Canadian border near North Troy, VT.  The Long Trail was conceived way back in 1909. It was completed in 1930, making it the oldest long-distance trail in the United States.

Considering I only have approximately 2.5 weeks to finish this hike, my base weight is going to considerably less than when I hiked the AT. I got myself a fancy pants Hyperlite Mountain Gear pack. I will be using my ZPacks duplex tent (the same one that I used on the AT; see photo for evidence. This goes to show how durable ZPacks tents are, even though it is a bit smelly).

I’ll be bringing a Sierra Design quilt and little to no clothes. I’ve got headquarters (Janis, who is amazing) dehydrating wonderfully delicious meals for me. I’ve got a pair of shoes. Oh, and a toothbrush.

I guess it’s time to get back on trail and see some more white blazes. I’ll be posting photos on the ‘gram at AlanJGoodwin. And I’ll be updating this blog as much as possible.
