Venturing into New England (1683 Miles)
Greetings from Rutland, Vermont! After six days in the woods I’ve temporarily escaped the green tunnel for some rest at a hostel in Vermont. The trail scenery has greatly improved in New England and the countdown to Maine has begun. Instead of looking at the miles hiked so far, the focus is now on how few remain, 505 currently. Even though this isn’t alot compared to what has been done, the remaining miles include some of the most challenging and remote sections of the trail. With the poor luck I’ve had getting phone service this may be the last blog update for awhile.
Since the last update the trail has been exceptional. I had a visit from family in New York, experienced some amazing trail magic, and received a resupply package from home. Thanks Grandma! As this journey draws to a close it will be these moments that are missed and charised the most.
Family from New York, thanks again for the visit and food!
Early morning view from the Massachusetts mountains.
Mount Greylock, Massachusetts. Highest point in MA.
Getting a raging fire going. Best part of being back in higher elevations has been the lack of bugs and cool nights!
The view shortly after crossing into Vermont. Welcome to moose country.
Heading up to the summit of Mt. Bromley in Vermont. In the winter this is a ski hill, thankfully the AT didn’t follow a black diamond route to the top.
Relaxing atop Mt. Bromley.
View from camp at an elevation of 3260 ft.
One of the gorgeous ponds that the AT passes by in Vermont.
Heading into Rutland, VT. Next up Hanover, New Hampshire and the White Mountains in a few days!
(Picture turned out rather blurry)
“It were as well to be educated in the shadow of a mountain as in more classical shades. Some will remember, no doubt, not only that they went to the college, but that they went to the mountain.” -Thoreau
