Smoothing out the kinks

Hi dear friends,

This week was a transformative one on the trail. This week, I felt like I got everything right.
Not that things were going wrong. Things have been going wonderfully, beautifully and exactly how they should… but this week felt different.

I started out from Hot Springs, NC alone. I walked alone and camped mostly alone. I slept until I wanted and sipped my coffee slowly. I read my book and packed my backpack only when I was ready. I stopped when I wanted. I didn’t stay at a designated camp site until my last night before reaching Erwin, TN. I camped at random spots and got to see deer and birds and snakes that stay away from those shelter spots. I night hiked for the first time because I had energy and didn’t feel like stopping even though it was dark.

I didn’t have any soreness. I looked down at my legs while I was hiking and literally couldn’t recognize them. They looked strong and tan and like legs that I had never looked down at before.  A section hiker came up to me and asked if I was a swimmer. I said no. He said I looked like a swimmer because of how toned my upper body was.

This week, I also began to understand the food for fuel concept. My body is like a car now. I fuel it and use the fuel immediately and must keep fueling if I keep hiking. It’s amazing. Tuna Mac and cheese is the best mid-day meal.

I’ve never felt so strong. It feels so good to feel so strong!

I started with a group of people and it was so fun, but this week showed me that I love being alone and allowing for every decision to be my own.

More to come soon!
